Entries open for 2018 WoolOn Awards

Entries open for this year’s WoolOn Awards being held in Alexandra in August.

Committee co-chair Karla Sanders said this year’s awards promise to be bigger and bolder than ever with two new categories opened for Novice designers and Accessories.

"These categories offer new designers or experienced craftspeople who have never entered an awards show an opportunity to showcase their skills in a friendly and supportive environment,” she said.

Existing categories - Streetwear, Avant-Garde, Felted, Machined, Special Occasion, Collections, Hand-crafted and Under 23 - were expected to attract entrants from local, national and international designers, Karla said.

For the first time, a designer liaison manager has been appointed by the committee.

Kaye Sutherland will be responsible for the entry process and will be the key contact for designers entering the competition.

She has previously worked for brands as diverse as Rip Curl, Sara Lee Corporation and Australian Alpaca Fleece and was particularly passionate about natural fibres.

She was excited to be involved with WoolOn and wanted to ensure the designers had the best opportunity to showcase their designs and build their profile.

Held over two nights, the ‘First Look’ event on Friday, 17 August offered a relaxing opportunity for the public to experience the excitement of the fashion catwalk while Saturday’s Rural Women New Zealand WoolOn Awards was the premier event, where category and overall winners would be announced during a spectacular catwalk and award show.

Entries are open now until 30th April and entry forms are available on the WoolOn website www.woolon.co.nz or by emailing enquiries@woolon.co.nz

Tickets are expected to go on sale in June.
