WoolOn Expo

This is a hands-on workshop for people who know how to sew a straight seam, (not a learn to sew class). You will learn how to place a pattern on the straight grain of fabric, construct and fit a lining, place and make buttonholes along with techniques to ensure your garment has a professional finish. You will make a sleeveless vest with a hood - ranging in sizes from 12 months old to 4 years old.
Bring your own sewing machine along with usual sewing equipment.
Bring woven woollen fabric you would like to transform. You will need 1 metre of fabric, (recycle a woollen coat, blanket, skirt or dress), for the outer layer plus and 1 metre of a non-stretch lining fabric. Pattern will be supplied.
Registrations essential - Places strictly limited to 8 people. Class starts at 9am finishes 4pm. Bring something to share for lunch.

In this workshop you will learn how to mend using a speedweave darning loom. The speedweave loom consists of a circular (or rectangular for bigger mends) disc which slides into your garment and is connected to a row of hooks via a metal spring. The hooks slide from left to right, lifting every second warp (vertical) thread so you do not have to weave your needle over and under to create the darn. Bring your own garments to mend, or try using the provided swatches. This method of darning is quick, easy and highly addictive. Speedweaves, practice swatches and yarn will be provided, along with written instructions on how to use the loom and some basic patterns to try.

Learn the basics of wet felting while creating a unique piece. Participants will take home their creation. Make one of the following: A small vessel, A flat piece of felt to make into something, ie placemat, or a Felted soap. Tutors will guide you to explore colour and form and share great knowledge of wool and its potential for creativity.

For experienced Spinners. Learn to spin beautiful core yarns for knittng and weaving. Included as part of the Art Yarn stable of yarns, but eminently useable, core yarns show off your beautiful fibres by displaying them on the surface of the yarn. A unique technique for creating those special yarns.
At the conclusion of the workshop, the participants would expect to take away a variety of hand spun core yarns.
